Chairs, stools and seating made in the Herefordshire Borders
I was initially inspired by the Welsh and West Country vernacular style of furniture. The traditional Welsh Stick Chair is particularly interesting in its design: its primitive and archaic appearance has an appealing honesty and humility.
A solid seat of 3 to 4 angular legs, no leg stretchers and the sometimes crudely formed armbow to rest upon: What could be more of a functional piece of furniture to embrace the human body?

Hand Made Traditional
Wooden Furniture
Traditional Tools
I employ an Adze to create the unique shape of the seats as well as utilising an axe, drawknife and shavehorse.
Locally Sourced & Stylish
I use local seasoned Oak and Ash as the materials alongside metals such as Goldleaf, brass and solder to highlight the profiles of my pieces. The end product combines comfort, elegance and function.
A Natural Finish
Using wirewool (iron) and vinegar (acid), I am able to produce the blue/black colours in my work simply by allowing the natural chemistry of the tannin in Oak to react with them.
